What's in this week's newsletter

1. Several new apps on iTunes for the iPhone/iTouch, including three new Federal Rules apps that are free.

2. List of my favorite lawyer movies and underappreciated classics on iTunes (and on DVD from Amazon.com).

3. List of New York City travel apps for iPhone/iTouch.

Why so few BlackBerry legal apps?

This week, I asked a person who sells legal apps on iTunes why there are so few legal apps on BlackBerry's web site. He said BlackBerry's perceived market potential is smaller and BlackBerry's devices do not have a standard interface, meaning it would be hard to design an app that would work on all BlackBerry devices.

New York City travel apps on iTunes

We have created a page of iPhone apps for persons visiting (or living in) New York City. Here are a few examples:

Central Park NYC - Classic by 10base-t Interactive ($2.99) is a highly rated map of Central Park.

CrossWalk 2009: NYC cross-street finder subway map & guide by 10base-t Interactive ($2.99) is a highly rated subway map, transit map, and cross street calculator.

Essential New York by Sutro Media ($0.99) is a new travel guide written by a Manhattan-born licensed guide. Sample pages on iTunes look good.

2. The Verdict (1982)

3. To Kill a Mockingbird (1962)

4. 12 Angry Men (1957)

5. Witness for the Prosecution (1957)

Since everyone does not own an iPhone or iTouch, we create similar lists for DVDs. The DVD lists are longer because certain movies are not yet available on iTunes.

Underappreciated classics on iTunes

2. I Remember Mama (1948)

3. Mrs. Miniver (1942)

5. Pride and Prejudice (1940)

6. The Shop Around the Corner (1940)

For a more detailed description, go to: iPhone classic movies page.

Why list movies at all? While the focus of this newsletter is on apps, these devices can be used to watch movies.
