Why Buy an iTouch?

This summer I bought an iTouch and I love it.

Introduction

I do not own an iPhone or a BlackBerry. For summer vacation, I wanted to be able to check my e-mail without taking my laptop. I purchased the cheapest iTouch (current price around $199) and I not only was able to check my e-mail and surf the Internet (using my condo's Wi-Fi connection), but I also began discovering the world of apps, which led to the addition of a focus on apps on this web site.

Easy to use

At my urging, my father also purchased an iTouch around the same time and used it to check e-mail in Europe while on vacation. He dislikes new technology, but he found the iTouch easy to use. This made me happy because one of my unpaid jobs in life is serving as his 24/7 tech support.

The basics

The Apple iTouch looks just like an iPhone. It is classified as an iPod, but it can do two things that other iPods cannot. First, it can run apps. Second, it can access the Internet via a Wi-Fi connection.

Features for all iTouches

You can play games, listen to music, watch movies, run apps, check e-mail, surf the Internet. Note: Wi-Fi access required to check e-mail and surf the Internet.

Features for 32 GB and 64 GB models

You can control music on the iTouch via voice control. Also, these models are 50% faster than previous models, meaning that apps launch faster and web pages load faster.

iTouch vs. iPhone comparison

Features

The iTouch allows you to run apps just like an iPhone unless a particular app has a feature that needs constant Internet access. An example would be a map app that uses GPS to track where you are on the map. But the vast majority of apps sold do not require constant Internet access.

Internet access

The iTouch allows you to check e-mail or surf the Internet as long as you have Wi-Fi access. For example, on summer vacation, my condo had Wi-Fi access. But if it had not, I could have gone to Starbucks or McDonalds. The iPhone can access the Internet even when there is no Wi-Fi access.

Cost

The best feature about the iTouch is the cost. For around $199, you can purchase an iTouch and this is a one time cost. The iPhone is probably going to cost you $100 per month or more.

Where to purchase an iTouch

You can purchase an iTouch from a local retailer like Wal-Mart or online. The Apple web site offers free engraving. Here is the link to the Apple iTouch web page: http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch

You can also purchase an iTouch from Amazon.com:
