You may know this already, but Google, MSN, Yahoo and other search engines rank your site based in part on how many other relevant sites link to it.
For example, Google explains page ranking as follows:
PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important."
Google also has a page that answers the question: how can I improve my page ranking?:
In general, webmasters can improve the rank of their sites by increasing the number of high-quality sites that link to their pages.
Whether you are a small firm or a national employment law firm, trading links with Garland's Digest should help your page ranking because Garland's Digest is a highly ranked site. For example, as of May 12, 2007, if you type in "employment discrimination":
1. On MSN, Garland's Digest is ranked #2.
2. On Yahoo, Garland's Digest is ranked #3.
3. On Google, Garland's Digest is ranked #3.
Because Garland's Digest is a highly ranked site, it should improve your site's ranking to be linked with Garland's Digest.
How to trade links
First, you must post links to Introlaw.com and Garlands-Digest.com on your site (Introlaw.com is a new web site designed for lay persons).
Then, send an e-mail to trading@garlands-digest.com with a link to the page where you posted the links to our sites. We will then add a link to your site within twenty-four hours and send you an e-mail confirmation.
With respect to the link that you create to our sites, those two links do not have to be anything more than a clickable link. For example:
Introlaw.com
[With the clickable link being to:
http://www.introlaw.com]Garlands-Digest.com
[With the clickable link being to: http://www.garlands-digest.com]However, if you think the links would make more sense with a tag line or explanation, here is what we would suggest:
Introlaw.com provides articles of an introductory nature on employment discrimination law.
Garlands-Digest.com provides employment law professionals with weekly updates on new employment discrimination law cases from the U.S. Supreme Court and the federal courts of appeal.
